Autumn comes to Loch Bad an Sgalaig

Autumn colours creep into the landscape in late August just
as the heather begins to bloom again. The higher ground
behind the road near Loch Bad an Sgalaig  gives
my favourite view of Beosbheinn in this
 changing season.

Torridon Glen towards Loch Clair

The walk round Loch Clair to Loch Cullin  gave  great views of the
mountains but not quite the vista down Glen Torridon I was looking
for. Another walk from the top of Glen Docherty, towards the
high ridge and past the phone mast provided this wonderful
perspective down Torridon Glen from Loch Clair to the
distant ridge of Liathach

'Loch Coulin towards Torridon Glen'

The popular walk past Loch Claire continues around the estate house
and alongside Loch Coulin. Enjoyable and relaxing as it is
the really memorable views are as always from higher up
so a bit more effort and adventure was required. Dry
ground was an invitation to leave the path for the slopes of
Carn Breac and then look back. Beinn Eighe, Liathach
and the slightly smaller Sgurr Dubh
on this side of the Glen

'Evening shade over Beinn Eighe'

The endlessly sunny weather gives way to lovely evening strolls'
midge free over a parched landscape. Very enjoyable but
not at all typical West Coast. Beinn Eighe rises
majestically above it all on the road to Kinlochewe.

Coton grass above the Fairy Lochs to Big Sand

M

Very early morning high on the hills
above Shieldaig Bay and near the WW2  Liberator
crash site.  All over Cotton Grass blooms where the
ground is usually marshy -  now bone dry, springy and
perfect for wandering. Every corner of tufted peatbog
and pretty Birch lined stream is easily accessible to explore.

Big Sand village towards the Torridons

The blog is back! And the new season  begins with
a small painting of Big Sand beach from my favorite view point.
Since this picture was finished last week the weather has changed
dramatically to sun and blue skies and the beach ......a little busier.
